Intro Woodworking: Build a Toddler's Rocking Chair!
Course Overview In this hands-on woodworking class, students will craft a sturdy toddler-sized rocking chair designed to withstand years of use and playful wear. Guided step-by-step, participants will learn essential woodworking techniques while assembling a functional and timeless piece of furniture.
What You’ll Do
Cut chair components: Shape parts using the bandsaw and router table, with many pieces pre-cut to save time and reduce repetitive cutting.
Drill and fasten: Use the drill, screw gun, and air stapler to securely assemble the chair frame.
Smooth and finish: Refine surfaces with the sander for a professional, child-safe finish.
Final assembly: Put all the pieces together to create a rocking chair that’s both durable and charming.

Note: While not a bladeless class, the strips to make the cutting boards will be precut to various widths in order to maximize design and glue up time.

About your Instructor: Phil Kern been an avid woodworker all his life and enjoys solving problems and making everything from garden obelisks to bluebird houses. He worked backstage at many theatre companies in Huntsville building sets and set pieces as well as many home projects. He has 2 daughters who among their many other talents also share his passion for working with wood.

An excellent opportunity to improve upon the skills you learned in the basic Pen Turning Class. This session allows you to make two additional pens and more if time permits. Hone and polish your skill (and pens) in this hands on semi-independent session.
Added pen kits beyond two will incur an added charge.
Prerequisite: Basic Pen Turning Class
Beginning Airbrushing: Foundations in Flow and Form
Family Friendly Class
Step into the world of airbrushing with this hands-on beginner class designed for artists, hobbyists, and curious creators of all kinds. Whether you're interested in customizing sneakers, painting miniatures, designing t-shirts, or just exploring a new artistic outlet, this course lays the groundwork for confident, creative spraying.
In this class, students will:
Learn how to set up, clean, and maintain an airbrush and compressor
Explore different airbrush types and painting surfaces
Practice basic spraying techniques including lines, dots, gradients, and masking
Experiment with color layering, stenciling, and freehand design
Complete beginner-friendly projects like on textiles
️ What to Expect: No prior experience necessary. Students will get plenty of guided practice, one-on-one feedback, and tips to build muscle memory and control. All materials and equipment will be provided unless otherwise noted. In addition, you will get 3 more hours of practice time once the class is complete to perfect your airbrushing skills. These times can be arranged with The Shop.
Perfect For: Beginners ages 14+ who want a low-pressure, fun environment to learn airbrushing essentials and leave with finished work they’re proud of.
GLASS: "Fall Into Fun" - Beginning Stained Glass Oak Leaf and Acorn Suncatcher
“Fall into Fun” and celebrate autumn color in this beginner‑friendly stained‑glass class. In students make stained‑glass oak leaf and acorn suncatchers while learning the essential skills of glass cutting, grinding, copper foiling, wire work, and soldering.
With just the right amount of challenge for new makers, this class guides students through creating two finished autumn suncatchers ready to hang in a window or give as seasonal gifts.
Note: Please cover up – no shorts, open toed shoes or sandals!
About Your Instructor: Elizabeth Brown's stained-glass work is on display at Harrison Brothers Hardware Art Gallery in Huntsville, AL and Mountain Valley Art Council Art Gallery in Guntersville, AL. She has studied stained glass under master glass artists from around the world, including The Shop's Stained Glass Master, Karen Reed.
